Scientifically focused on phytochemical analysis (methods of isolation, extraction, chromatographic analysis and structure elucidation of natural products), examination of the bioactivity of active compounds (esp. coumarins, flavonoids, phenolic acids, alkaloids, irydoids, tannins).
Supervisor of over 90 M.Sc. theses and 10 doctoral dissertations, among which three were distinguished with a Prime Minister Award for the best doctorates of the year.
Professor K. Głowniak is an author and co-author of more than 600 original research papers and reviews, published in Polish and international journals recognised worldwide (with total impact factor 136.833, Hirsch index 17 acc. to Web of Knowledge).
He is also active member of a number of national and international scientific organizations, i.e.: The Polish Society of Phytochemistry (former President), The Medicinal Plants group of Commission of Polish Pharmacopoeia (President), Vice-president of the Committee for Drug Research of the PAN, The Indian National Society of Ethnopharmacology (honorary member), The Indian Association for Cancer Research, The International Society for the Development of Natural Products (President)
Professor K. Głowniak is a co-author of some joined projects of international co-operation, which are implemented in Polish (Dept. of Pharmacognosy, Medical University of Lublin, Poland) and international scientific centres (UK, Japan, Greece, Thailand, Canada, India, Austria, USA, China, Denmark).
He is member of editorial boards of Acta Chromatographica, Chinese Herbal Medicine and Chinese Journal of Natural Medicine. Also a research editor of Polish Journal of Medicinal Plants and Polish pharmaceutical periodical “Czasopismo Aptekarskie”, Clinical Phytoscience.
