The Director of the Independent Public Clinical Hospital No.1 in Lublin, a medical doctor – Beata Gawelska has been a member of the Cluster board since its establishment – that is, since 2014.
Beata Gawelska is a doctor in the field of internal medicine and social medicine. She completed postgraduate studies in management and economics in health care at the Medical University of Lublin and in clinical trials at the Jagiellonian University. While working in the Lublin Provincial Department of the National Health Fund, she gained over 10-year experience in the functioning and accounting of healthcare entities. A specialist in the field of practical applications of medical law, including contracting, settlement and control of services financed from public funds, issues of cooperation between service providers and the National Health Fund and systemic problems in health care. She has been professionally associated with the Medical University of Lublin since 2012. In the years 2012-2019, she was the Deputy Director for Medical Affairs at the Independent Public Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Lublin, and then the Deputy Director for Medical Affairs In the Independent Public Clinical Hospital No. 4 in Lublin.
Since taking up the position of the Head of SPSK No. 1 in August last year, Beata Gawelska has been responsible for the implementation of one of the largest investments in health care in Poland – the long-term programme called “Reconstruction and extension of the Independent Public Clinical Hospital No. 1 of the Medical University of Lublin”. The investment is scheduled to be completed in 2022.
The oldest hospital in Lublin not only invests in infrastructure and equipment in order to provide better treatment conditions for patients, the aim is also to create optimal working conditions for experienced staff. Currently, the structure of the facility includes 17 Clinics, nine of which are managed by Provincial or National Consultants. The hospital implements many supra-regional projects, coordinates cooperation with centers in the country and abroad.

In 2020, in connection with the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, SPSK No. 1 gained the title of a leading center in the region and one of the most important centers in the country that began implementing innovative research and innovative treatment in this area. Due to high-class specialists in the field of infectious diseases and other areas involved in the treatment of COVID-19 patients, the hospital has actively participated in various projects and research aimed at controlling the global enemy – the coronavirus. SPSK 1 coordinates the work of the Temporary Hospital for COVID-19 patients, it organized and runs an isolation room with a collection point for SARS-CoV-2 testing. As part of the National Population Vaccination Program, SPSK 1 also created the largest vaccination point in the region, organized at Radziwiłłowska Street.
