Chairman of Radiology, Head of the Department of Interventional Radiology of the Medical University in Lublin. She got diploma and was promoted to an associate professor at this University, followed by a full professorship. Prof. Szczerbo-Trojanowska participated in numerous scientific programmes abroad including Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, the Uppsala University in Sweden and the University of Giessen in Germany. She co-founded the Interventional Radiology Society which she headed between 1980-1990. Prof. Szczerbo-Trojanowska was a President of Polish Medical Society of Radiology and has headed it for three years. She is an active member of numerous international medical societies and associations. Prof. Szczerbo-Trojanowska was elected a member of the board of the European Society of Radiology. Since then she has worked on various committees of the ESR. The highlight in her career was Presidency of the European Congress of Radiology in 2010 held in Vienna. She is a member of the Steering Committee of the European School of Radiology conducting educational activity on all continents. Prof. Szczerbo-Trojanowska was awarded by honorary membership of eight radiological societies including the Seldinger Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology.
Her main field of interest is interventional radiology, a medical discipline, which developed many minimally invasive procedures as an alternative to surgical operations. She introduced to clinical practice many embolization procedures for treatment of vascular malformations and neoplasms, vascular interventions like angioplasties and stentgrafting in the treatment of aortic aneurysms. Her scientific work resulted in 220 papers published in scientific journals and has given over 250 presentations at many international scientific meetings and congress.
Prof. Szczerbo-Trojanowska was awarded twice by the Minister of Health and received numerous honours, among them the Medal of the Polish Radiological Society, the Medal of the Polish Chamber of Physicians, the Medal “ Gloria Medicine” , the Gold Medal of the European Radiological Society and the President’s Award of the American Association for Women Radiologists.
Głównym obszarem zainteresowań Prof. Szczerbo-Trojanowskiej jest radiologia zabiegowa, dyscyplina, która rozwinęła szereg małoinwazyjnych metod leczniczych będących alternatywą dla zabiegów chirurgicznych. Wprowadziła do praktyki klinicznej szereg zabiegów embolizacji mających zastosowanie w leczeniu wad naczyniowych i nowotworów, zabiegi angioplastyki wykorzystywane w leczeniu następstw miażdżycy w postaci zwężeń i niedrożności naczyń, a także wewnątrznaczyniowe leczenie tętniaków aorty.
Prof. Małgorzata Szczerbo-Trojanowska opublikowała ponad 220 prac naukowych, a ponad 250 zaprezentowała na polskich i zagranicznych zjazdach naukowych.
