Neurosurgeon, Head and Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery and Paediatric Neurosurgery, best in Poland in three consecutive rankings of Newsweek. Member of the University Senate. Elected Deputy Dean and Prorector of the Medical University. A State Consultant in Neurosurgery and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Minister of Health. President of the Lublin Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences, elected Chairman of the Neuroscience Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Board member of many scientific societies: Vice-President of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies, Vice-President of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies, secretary and Honorary President of the Eurasian Academy of Neurosurgery (Academia Eurasiana Neurochirurgica), member of the German Academy of Neurosurgery, Turkish Academy of Neurological Surgery, World Academy of Neurosurgery. Chairman of the Joint Residency Accreditation Advisory Committee and of the Ethico-Legal Committee of EANS, Director of the Board of the European Brain Injury Consortium, member of the Board of the European Skull Base Surgery. President of the Section of Neurosurgery and of the Surgical Specialities Grouping of the UEMS. Advisor to the President of Cyprus in medical education.

Distingushed by Honorary Presidency of the Polish Society of Neurosurgeons, Honorary Membership of: the Polish Surgical Society, the British Neurosurgical Society and of the German Neurosurgical Society.

Knight Commander of the Order of St Silvester (Vatican), Knight’s Cross of the Order of Rebirth of Poland, Order Gloria Medicinae of the Polish Society of Physicians, Pro Societate Scientarum et Litterarum Lublinensi Merito, medals and distinctions from the Lord Mayor of Lublin. First grade Scientific and Educational Prises of the Minister of Health and of the Rector.

Sits on the Editorial Boards of many scientific journals including Acta Neurochirurgica, Journal of Neurosurgical Sciences, Life Sciences Journal, Advances in Clinical and Experimental Medicine, Korean Neurosurgery, Neurologia i Neurochirugia Polska. Author of over 200 published papers, 250 congress papers and chapters in 12 monographs.

Scientific interests in neurodiagnostics, vascular brain diseases, neurooncology, radiosurgery, technique in neurosurgery, medical ethics.
