The international distant abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery was attended by the Head of the Department of Vascular Surgery and Angiology at the Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Lublin – Prof. Tomasz Zubilewicz, and Dr Marek Iłżecki.
The procedure took place in the operating theatre of a hospital in Sofia. The patient was a 61-year-old man with an abdominal aortic aneurysm with a diameter of 5.5 cm.
The innovation of this imaging technology lies in the fact that doctors located, for example, several thousand kilometres from each other – wearing special goggles – can see the operated area live in the form of displayed holograms.
Vascular surgeons from the Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Lublin have been performing endovascular treatments of abdominal aortic aneurysms for nearly 25 years. Annually they operate about 100-130 such patients.
